MANA Home Birth Statistics

Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) conducted a study between 2004-2010 on the safety of home birth for low risk women. They found that low-risk, healthy women delivering at home were associated with fewer interventions and no increase in adverse outcomes for both mother and newborn.

What I value most about this study is that the statistics are based off the medical record. Which means the stats are based off women who planned to deliver at home, regardless of whether they transferred to the hospital or not.

Midwives are essential tools in improving maternal and fetal outcomes. ie. 5% c-section rate compared with the U.S. national average of 31% for full-term pregnancies.
