LABOR & DELIVERY
Physiological labor support and management starting in active labor (6cm dilated). Giving birth at home allows you to labor and birth in a familiar surrounding. You have total control in temperature, lighting, sound, the ability to eat/drink as desired, and who is present for the birth of your baby.
Use of pillows, birth stool, rebozo are some pain relieving techniques that we use, that also help to shorten labor time and achieve optimal fetal position in the pelvis. During labor, I will be conscious of your unique needs, whether it be privacy or gentle encouragement. I offer low intervention, "tincture of time" style management during your delivery. All the necessary supplies will be set up for the delivery of your baby - including oxygen and medications - as well as equipment to monitor your vital signs and baby's heartbeat. We will create an emergency plan of care together at 37 weeks of your pregnancy. Your birth team will provide continuous labor support until delivery, even if a transfer is necessary and birth occurs in the hospital. A birth kit brought to your home at the 36 week home visit (disposable supplies for your birth, herbal sitz bath mix and other items to enhance your postpartum experience).
Waterbirth is often referred to as the "Midwife's Epidural" and I am happy to help incorporate it into your birth plan. Some labor and birth in the tub, while others prefer to get out for the delivery. A professional birth pool is included in your care with Full Circle Midwifery. We will provide you list of supplies to purchase for your waterbirth.
A birth assistant works hard to maintain order and cleanliness of the birth space, assists the midwife at time of delivery, helps the midwife chart the birth, disinfects and deflates the pool, keeps the birth team (You too, Dad!) hydrated and nourished, and will even do a load of laundry after birth.
